MEET - Middle East Education for Technology
MEET is an innovative educational initiative aimed at creating a common professional language between Arab and Jewish young leaders. Working together with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), MEET enables participants in its programs to acquire advanced technological and leadership tools, while empowering them to create positive social change
within their own communities.
Together with MIT, MEET has developed a 3-year educational program for high-school pupils comprised of two complementary components: an intensive summer program held at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem and yearlong programs conducted simultaneously at the MEET hubs in Jerusalem and Nazareth.
Conducted wholly in English, the program integrates studies in computer science with the fundamentals of business and entrepreneurship. The aim is that, by the end of the program, participants will have developed a full product prototype and business plan. In addition to the technical curriculum, the program focusses on developing the participants’ leadership, teamwork, management, negotiation, and cross-cultural communication skills.
In 2012 MEET expanded its activities to include the Nazareth hub in the Nazareth Industrial Park. This significant move opened up MEET’s technological and entrepreneurial leadership program to a large population of Arab and Jewish youth located in the north. In the first year of the Nazareth program, close to 300 applicants applied for just 30 places. The 2014 course will offer places for 40 participants, expanding the scope of the program still further.
